The
Bishop Search Committee
Welcome to the website of the Bishop
Search Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. The
website is intended as a friendly way station to pass on
information about both the Search Committee itself and about
the Diocese's search for a new bishop, occasioned by Bishop
Croneberger 's upcoming retirement in 2006. As determined by
the Diocese's Standing Committee, here's what the Search
Committee is supposed to do:
- To create a profile of the
diocese;
- To receive the names and
evaluate the qualifications
of prospective candidates;
- To create a slate
of nominees; and
- To introduce the nominees to the diocese.
Signs
of Grace in the Diocese of Newark
The
profile of the Diocese of Newark of Newark provides a portrait of the outward
and visible signs as well as the inward and spiritual grace
of Christ's presence in the Episcopal Church in northern New
Jersey. We hope to reveal something of our ongoing
experience of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ as we anticipate his coming again in this part of the
world.
We reveal as much as we can about who
we are, the character of our life together, and the nature
of our discernment as we seek from God a new Bishop to lead
us further into the particular challenges and possibilities
of the 21st century.
The profile is presented symbolically
in the model of a Eucharistic liturgy. It is not a literal
liturgical text and is not a re-writing of liturgical texts.
It does indicate the way in which the Eucharist unites the
diverse people of the Diocese of Newark with Christ and one
another and empowers us to be God's people in the world.
Also, it shows that we view our world, our lives, and our
life together through the lens we have as Eucharistic
people. We invite you to the Profile
of the Diocese of Newark.

The Diocese of Newark is
ethnically diverse. In recognition of this, the
Profile of the Diocese is available in Spanish, Korean, and Malayalam, a language of India now in use in
this diocese. Additionally, a rough translation of
these web pages into Chinese, German, Japanese,
Korean, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish is
available using the Bable Fish Translator to the
right. The Spanish, Korean and Malayalam profiles
are in pdf format and require the free
Adobe Reader to
view.
