Dear Rector and Wardens,
We ask clergy and wardens to help us distribute and gather
information related to the Search for the Tenth Bishop of
Newark. It is critical to have the insights of as many as
possible throughout the Diocese.
Please encourage wide participation in the listening
meetings at four locations within the diocese during the
first full week in October.
Please use the enclosed educational inserts for your parish
bulletins on the four Sundays designated.
Clergy, please attend Clergy Day, on September 27th.
That is the major venue for your input. There you will
learn ways to enhance Response Sunday on October 2nd.
We will take what we learn from you, incorporate it into the
Profile, and bring a draft to you in November for all to
evaluate and improve.
You face important issues all the time, but few issues are
as critical as shaping the future of our Diocese. These are
opportunities for you and your parish to provide
information, concerns, ideas, and vision that will help
shape our future. We ask you to be active in this
search. Please urge those in your parishes to
participate as fully as possible.

- Sundays from September 11th through October 2nd:
Learning Leaflets - Educational inserts, created by the
Education Committee, will be provided to each parish to
copy and include in the service bulletins for those days.
- September 27th: Clergy Day - A meeting will be
held for clergy in the Diocese to discuss four
specific questions:
- What is working well in the Diocese now?
- What needs to work well in the future?
- What leadership characteristics should we seek in
our next bishop?
- Other than demographics and structure of the
Diocese, what else do you believe should be stressed
in the Profile?
- October 2nd (backup, September 25th):
Reflection Sunday: Our Experience of Bishops.
Members of congregations will address a reflection
question about bishops.
- October 3rd through 6th: The Diocese Speaks:
Laity Input Focus Groups. On these four
evenings (from 6:30 to 9:00 PM), we will invite the laity
to discuss the same four questions as discussed by the
clergy on Clergy Day:
